About Us

The Hamilton Music Collective was initiated in January 2008 by a group of local musicians, educators and community supporters who share a love of the arts, and music in particular.  We are dedicated to music with a distinct artistic vision and we are committed to invigorating the jazz/music scene in Hamilton by producing high quality musical events in our community.  Our mission is to introduce young people to creative and improvised music, its history and culture through performances, educational programs, exhibits and workshops.

Our vision and mission is accomplished through two fundamental components:

Performance

HMC produces and presents high quality performances offering top quality musicianship, involving local, regional and international ensembles and soloists. HMC aims to develop international partnerships to promote collaborative efforts with artists, musicians and composers beyond our own borders to establish Hamilton as an international hub for creative music. Guest artist and teachers in the past have included a.o. : Nick Marchione, NYC based lead trumpet player with the Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Grammy nominated Saxophonist Donny McCaslin, Blue Note recording artists Bill Charlap and Renee Rosnes (produced by 'The Steeltown Friends of Mohawk Music') and Dave Liebman.

Education

We foster the engagement and development of listeners of all ages who wish to appreciate and understand the art of jazz. Starting 2009 we will offer a dynamic and innovative array of artistic and educational programming in the concert hall, classroom and community. From our 'Music in the Classroom' and 'Meet the Instrument' programs involving elementary students to our 'Meet the Orchestra' concert/lecture for adults we are committed to encouraging the growth of jazz and the development of jazz audiences for people of all ages.
